Planning Your Ski Holiday

Skiing is a great activity – not only is it great exercise, and really works your muscles, but you’ll get an adrenaline buzz and wonderful views too. Plus, what is more romantic than sharing a cute ski lodge with your partner, or a cabin with your family?

If you haven’t been skiing before, there are some things to consider. Where can you travel too? Take into consideration your children’s ages, how long you would be on the plane and how much it would cost. If you don’t have children, would you prefer and adults-only resort? These are quite rare, and do charge a premium, but are usually stunning resorts. Do you want a hotel, or a ski lodge? Lodges have a much more authentic feel, but hotels have their benefits, too. If you can’t decide, you might be able to find a large ski lodge hotel, which offers the best of both worlds.

Do you want other activities available, such as snow boarding? Would you like to be close enough to wonder into a ski town to explore? Once you’ve decided, speak to some ski holiday specialists, and travel agents. They will be able to match your requirements to different resorts, and give you an idea of how much it will cost.

Once you’ve got your ski lodge booked, you’ll need to invest in some kit. Everyone will need a few pairs of thermals, both trousers and tops, to keep them warm. You’ll also need ski trousers, and a ski jacket. Children may prefer an all-in-one ski suit, although these can make going to the bathroom difficult! Most resorts hire out ski boots and skis, to save you on luggage charges, and give you a wide choice.

Finally, hit a local snowdome! Find somewhere you can practise being on skis, or go ice-skating – anything which will improve your balance will help, and having strong muscles will also make you better at skiing. Finally, have fun! Ski lodge holidays always make great family memories.
